AC Servo Amplifier RS2 with EtherCAT interface
SANYO DENKI EUROPE SA. is pleased to introduce their new
«SANMOTION RS2 Advanced Model» AC Servo Amplifiers with Ethercat communication interface. Complying with IEC61158 and IEC61800-7, this serie has been designed to meet recent demand for faster communication, increased real-time variable parameters and more accurate synchronization. Available in both 100VAC and 200VAC version, this serie is able to drive motors up to 2kW rated power.
1) EtherCAT high speed communication and CoE device profile
EtherCAT stands for "
Ethernet for
Control
Automation
Technology". It is an open, real-time Ethernet network supported by ETG group (http://www.ethercat.org/). Based on the widely used 100BASE-TX cabling system and with a baud rate of 100Mbps full-duplex (Fig.1), EtherCAT enables high-speed control of multiple axes while maintaining tight synchronization of clocks in the nodes (100 axis controled in 100 microsec). It also allows a flexible networking topology: in line, tree or star with a maximum of 65535 nodes.
Thanks to CoE (CANopen over EtherCAT) device profile based on DSP-402 for servo systems, EtherCAT provides same communication mechanisms as the familiar CANopen : object dictionary, PDO (process data objects) and SDO (service data objects) - even the network management is comparable. EtherCAT can thus be implemented with a minimum of effort on devices equipped with CANopen.

2) High response and short position settling time
Thanks to high output torque control, the torque is increased by 15% at high rotation speed reducing the acceleration and deceleration times while model following control, high speed sampling (1200Hz) and model following damping control greatly reduce position settling time increasing the throughput of the machine.
3) Safe Torque Off function (STO)
As an option, the amplifier supports Safe Torque Off (STO) integrated safety function according to standards «IEC61800-5-2», «IEC61508-SIL2», «IEC62061-SILCL2» and «ISO138949-1 (EN954-1) Cat.3 PL=d». This function also matches to standard «IEC60204-1 Stop Category 0» for emergency stop.
4) Touch Probe function
Two dedicated inputs for Touch Probe function have been added to meet the needs of high-end applications. With this function, the current position of the encoder can be stored with an extremely short delay as requested by measuring or packaging machines.
5) Compact size / Wide range of motor power / Built-in functions
A wide range of motor power is covered from 30W to 2kW in a very compact package as the control circuit of the servo amplifier and EtherCAT interface circuit are collected on the same board (Fig. 2). The servo amplifiers integrate many functions such as model following damping control to reduce mechanical vibrations and noise or a position command movement average filter to improve accuracy.
